Annual Conference

The Chair hosts a conference on an annual basis under a different and pertinent theme. In 2022 the theme was “The Right to Development and the Operationalization of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement.” The sub-themes included:

1. Intra-African Trade and the Prospects for Poverty Eradication;
2. The Roel of Foreign Direct Investment in the Development of Africa;
3. Agricultural Development and the Food Value Chain;
4. Linkages Between the AfCFTA and WTO Multilateral Trading System
5. Challenges Confronting Land-Locked Least Developed Countries within the AfCFTA and WTO Trading Systems
6. The Contribution of Trade to Sustainable and Inclusive Socio-Economic Development

This conference was held entirely in hybrid format, in the interests of maximum visibility and participation, and attracted papers from diverse countries, such as South Africa, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Kenya and Rwanda, to mention a few. Some of the papers are available in the resources folder.
