The Inaugural seminar of the NUL WTO Chair was on the theme ‘Industrialisation, Economic Growth, and Development’. This was in response to the Ministry of Trade and Industry who sought to revise the industrial policy, at the time, and needed to stimulate necessary debates around the topic. The keynote paper was presented by Dr Denis Yuni, a Senior Lecturer in Development Macroeconomics in the Department of Economics at the National University of Lesotho.
The discussants were drawn from academia, the private sector and the government. They x-rayed the theme from different regional and domestic perspectives. The discussants were:
- Dr Tsotang Tsietsi, Faculty of Law, NUL
- Mr Christian Kabongo, Industrial Development Corporation, South Africa
- Ms Relebohile Ramakhala, Ministry of Trade and Industry
- Mr Thabo Rakhetsi, The Lesotho National Development Corporation
- Ms Qothoase Khofane, The Private Sector Foundation of Lesotho
- Mr. Monti Ntlopo, Lesotho Electricity and Water Authority
The seminar attracted over 45 participants and yielded very fruitful deliberations. The output from the keynote paper has been published as a journal article and can be found here.
